Ryan Reynolds Jokes ‘Detective Pikachu’ Makes His Kids Love Him Again

"Pokemon Detective Pikachu" U.S. Premiere

Ryan Reynolds’ brood with wife Blake Lively is growing! The Pokémon: Detective Pikachu actor phoned into On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Monday, May 6, just days after Lively revealed they’re expecting baby No. 3

The couple are already parents to 4-year-old daughter James and 2-year-old daughter Inez. Reynolds joked that his eldest daughter James appreciates him again now that he holds the title of Pikachu in the highly-anticipated new film Pokémon: Detective Pikachu.

“You have no idea, it’s like I’m no longer invisible,” Reynolds joked. “… My older daughter has become completely obsessed wth me. She is calling me ‘Dad’ again; She is looking me in the eye; … She’s eating her vegetables — it’s just insane.”

Jokes aside, the role of the beloved character has fans globally excited.

“I think it’s enduring and it’s stayed so incredibly relevant because anything in the universe that’s built out in a way that’s so individual [yet] there’s so much variety in it, I feel like you have a ton of people all over the world that can relate to different creatures and characters in that world,” Reynolds said of the character’s ability to stay relevant 23 years later. “… For a lot of people seeing ‘Detective Pikachu,’ it’s oddly an emotional experience … they suddenly look the way they always imagined they’d might look when they were kids.”

We. Can’t. Wait!
