Ouch! Jeremy Renner broke both arms while filming latest flick Tag. During an interview with Ryan Seacrest on Wednesday, June 13, on On Air With Ryan Seacrest, Renner and Seacrest joked about how many times Renner has had to tell the story behind his on-set injury.
Prior to phoning into the radio show, Renner joined Ryan and cohost Kelly Ripa on Live With Kelly and Ryan and recalled the story.
While attempting a stunt on just the second of shooting, Renner fell off a stack of chairs 20 feet high and landed on both arms. Without realizing he broke both arms, he did the stunt again before heading to the hospital.
The film Tag is based on a true story of five highly competitive friends who play a no-holds-barred game of tag every year, the same game they’ve been playing since the first grade. Based on their true story, Tag shows how far some guys will go to be the last man standing, hence Renner's injuries.
“It’s too absurd to even write a script about because there’s no way it would have ever been made,” Renner told Ryan of the plot, “But because it is really a true story and real guys doing it — the Wall Street journal story really ignited it — and then I got hooked when I saw the videos of the lengths these guys would go to catch each other and I was like this is fascinating to me.”
Renner added his favorite part about the story is the celebration of their youthful spirits.
