Hailey Baldwin is setting the record straight. The model, 21, shared in a candid interview with The Times UK that despite reports, she’s “single” and not dating singer Shawn Mendes, 19.
"We hang out and he's super-lovely and a very, very nice young gentleman," Baldwin told the publication, reportedly with a coy smile. "But I am single."
"The dating pool is small," she continued. "It's rare to find somebody that has the same ideas and morals as me. I have found people like that before, though, which is refreshing."
The friends sparked rumors after they were spotted packing on the PDA in Mendes’ native Toronto and later attending the 2018 Met Gala together. Despite walking the red carpet and posing for photographers, neither had officially confirmed their rumored romance.
During an interview with Ryan Seacrest on On Air With Ryan Seacrest on May 17, the “In My Blood” singer played coy about their reported romance, neither confirming nor denying it.
“I wasn’t expecting this question at all,” Shawn joked when Ryan asked him about walking the 2018 Met Gala carpet with Baldwin. “That was my first Met Gala and I was really lucky to be able to walk with Hailey. We’re great friends and honestly if I didn’t walk that carpet with her, I would have been shaking. She made it very easy for me.”
Mendes, who joins previously announced performers Ariana Grande, Meghan Trainor, Sabrina Carpenter, 5 Seconds of Summer, NF, Miguel, Janelle Monáe and Marshmello with a special guest performance by Logic at iHeartRadio’s Wango Tango presented by AT&T on June 2, has since told E! News that he’s also single.
"I am single," he told E! News' Sibley Scoles. "The Met Ball was such an incredible experience for me. It was just overwhelming in the most incredible way. I was so lucky for my first time going there to be able to go with someone like Hailey because she's such a vet and I really admire people like her because of how outgoing she is in such an overwhelming experience."
