Chrissy Teigen and John Legend's 6-year-old son, Miles, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2024 while undergoing treatment for a bacterial infection at the hospital.
The model and mother-of-four recently told People that after the doctors confirmed his diagnosis, their family was "thrown into this world of chaos."
"We were thrown into this world of chaos and having to learn so much all at once. Everything was put on pause. We were finding ourselves going in and out of hospitals, sitting down with our notebooks taking copious notes, and taking videos of everything someone was doing with the insulin jar."
When Miles returned home from the hospital, he asked his mom, "Why me? How come not Luna?" Teigen revealed that he "was really worried that it would affect if he could play sports. 'Can I have candy still? Can I have ice cream?' All those things that only a kid would worry about."
The entrepreneur gives Miles a daily insulin shot which took some getting used to.
"The first three months were really, really tough for us as a family because your child is experiencing pain. You try everything: tokens, bribery, iPad time. You do everything you can to see what makes him comfortable."
Teigen, who also shares Luna, 9, Esti, 2, and Wren, 22 months, with the "All Of Me" hitmaker, remarked on the constant ups and downs associated with Miles's condition.
"One day you're like, 'He did it!' And you're so excited it's all looking up. Then all of a sudden the next day is so difficult again. I've always said this about having kids in general, and it fits in with this too: When things are going so great, you can always count on it to turn. And when things are really rough, things are going to get better. Our family's really good about navigating those curve balls now."
The Cravings founder stressed the importance of early T1D screening and referred to Miles as a "little warrior."
