Guests at Prince Louis' Christening Will Eat Seven-Year-Old Cake

It's a big day for the royal family: Prince Louis was christened in a private ceremony at St James's Palace in London. While Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip unfortunately were not able to attend the christening, the rest of the House of Windsor was in attendance. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle showed up looking like the coolest Uncle and Aunt a kid could have, while Kate Middleton looked so glamorous in a white dress as she cradled baby Louis in her arms. Prince William walked in holding Prince George and Princess Charlotte's hands ahead of the rest of his family. It was truly a family affair.

While many details about the private ceremony were kept under wraps, it was revealed that guests attending the christening will be served slices of cake from William and Kate's wedding in 2011. If you stop for a moment to do the math, that means guests will be served seven-year-old cake at the christening. Some people took to Twitter to discuss this, um, interesting royal tradition.

While some people were confused about why William and Kate would be serving cake from their wedding seven years ago at their third child's christening, others were able to jump in and explain the tradition. "The top tier of the wedding cake is kept aside for any future christenings. Seven years is just when the parents were married - it would have tasted a bit fresher for the previous two." wrote Robin Sones on Twitter.

Another user explained that a "fruit cake laced with enough brandy lasts until the end of the world." They also pointed out that it "will taste just as good / bad" as it would have originally.

This information definitely helps to clear things up, but seven-year-old fruit cake still doesn't sound super appetizing. I can't help but wonder how Meghan Markle - a newly minted Royal from America - feels about this tradition. Did she eat the fruit cake? We'll never know.
