Kelly Ripa stopped by On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Monday, February 3, and took a trip down memory lane with Live cohost Ryan Seacrest.
Ripa shared that her Live debut 20 years ago was all due to fate — and (literally) being camera ready.
“I was doing the soap opera [All My Children] and what actually really happened was another person was supposed to fill in with Regis that day,” Ripa recalled to Seacrest. “Kathie Lee had left the show … this is 20 years ago … and another person was supposed to fill in that day … and they literally called down the street — because we worked down the street — and they said, ‘Who is in hair and makeup and can come fill in? Who is camera ready?’ And they’re like ‘Uhhh, the girl who plays Hayley,’” Ripa hilariously continued. “‘… The girl who plays Hayley is ready. I’m looking at her right now. She looks ready.’”
Ripa portrayed Hayley Vaughan on the ABC daytime soap opera between 1990 and 2002 before joining Live officially in 2001.
Seacrest joined Ripa as cohost in 2017 and the duo are having a blast. Ripa and Seacrest will take the Oscars stage again this year following the awards show on Monday, February 10, for Live's After Oscar Show. The hosts will chat with winners, recap all of the excitement from the night before and showcase exclusive backstage interviews with the night's biggest stars. Kesha is also set to perform.
“I used to roll in from Madonna’s party and be like ‘Whatever!’” Ripa joked of before Ryan joined the show. “… Like eyeliner on my chin.”
