Judge Bans Parents From Naming Son After Prince William

Many parents-to-be struggling to come up with a name for their baby look to relatives or celebrities for inspiration. Some moms and dads choose to use a baby's name as a way to pay homage to a loved one or even to a favorite famous personality. That's what one couple from France decided to do when they named their baby in honor of England's Prince William, but a judge refused to let them do it. That might seem strange until you find out just how the parents named their kid. Instead of going with the obvious and naming their son William, they made his official name Prince William.

France has a law that allows the court to overrule parents' name choices "in the interests of the child," and a judge felt the name "Prince William" could set the boy up for a "lifetime of mockery." The parents seemed to take the ruling well because they had a back-up name ready to go. Unfortunately for them, that name was also denied. It was Minnie Cooper. No word on what they ultimately went with.

The parents aren't the first to run afoul with naming laws. Other names courts have taken issue with include Nutella, Cyanide, J, Lego, Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii, Piye and Brfxxccxxmnpcccclllmmnprxvclmnckssqlbb11116.
