Have you ever wondered who started Friendsgiving??? I feel like this wasn't a thing growing up for me…
But in the past five to ten years, hosting a Thanksgiving meal among friends a week or two before the actual holiday has become a standard part of the celebration for many young adults.
Do we like the idea of Friendsgiving? Is it an imposition to ask everyone to gather for a Thanksgiving meal a week or so before they’ll have another?
But where did it start? That’s where the dispute comes in. Some say…it starts with the show “Friends” since they had iconic Thanksgiving episodes every season…but the term “Friendsgiving” was never spoken on the show.
The other theory comes to us from Bailey’s Irish Cream. They promoted an ad campaign called “Friendsgiving with Bailey’s” and since then, it really seems to have become a THING.
The earliest mentions of it online are in 2007 on Twitter…but after 2011…it was everywhere. So it looks like we have Bailey’s to thank.
