It's hard to believe that we're already thinking about things like the holidays... but it is already mid-September! It's time to plan your Halloween costumes (if you're even going to dress up this year), consider how you can safely celebrate Thanksgiving and even start to wonder about Christmas or Hannukah celebrations.
For one of the biggest and most common Thanksgiving Day traditions, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, there is a plan in place for how the parade will still go on, even during the coronavirus pandemic!
Just be prepared for your favorite Thanksgiving morning tradition to look a liiiittle different this year, as it will be done almost entirely virtually online or on your televisions.
Of course, the safety of participants and spectators is Macy’s number one priority. This year’s 94th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade celebration will be produced solely as a television event allowing millions of New Yorkers and the nation to safely experience it from the comforts of home - without the camping out on the cold streets, packed together verrrry closely.
Instead, this year the parade will actually take place over 2 days and the number of participants will be reduced by nearly 75%. Everything will be filmed for television and aired together like the usual parade.
All participants will be appropriately socially distanced during performances and be required to wear face coverings and additional personal protective equipment depending on their role. Like I said, they really are focused on keeping everyone as safe as possible during this year's parade! And that way we can all enjoy it without being worried about the pandemic, for just a moment!
Unfortunately, things will definitely look different on TV as well. The parade's traditional 2.5 mile route is not going to be a part of this year's parade. It's unclear right now what route the floats will take, but I imagine something much shorter, to keep New Yorkers from congregating to watch the floats go by.
This is 2020!
Of course this makes me wonder... if this is the plan for the Thanksgiving Day Parade - what will be the plan for New Year's Rockin' Eve?!
Leave me a Yap with how YOU are planning on celebrating the holidays this year!
