The Duke And Duchess Of Sussex Attend WellChild Awards

Well, the world was SHOCKED yesterday when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex (aka Prince Harry and Meghan Markle) made the huge announcement that, as a couple, they would be "stepping back" from their royal duties.

The lengthy statement includes comments like:

"After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen."

In the statement they shared they plan to split time between the UK and North American, which will "enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity."

So, yeah, kind of a HUGE deal here. But should we have seen this coming? Probably.

Back in October, while talking with ITV's Tom Bradby, Meghan made a comment that may have foreshadowed the couple's split from the royal family.

While talking about the constant attack of the press, Meghan said, "It's not enough to just survive something, right? That's not the point of life. You've got to thrive, you've got to feel happy."

So you wonder, were she and Harry having conversations back in October about what it would look like for them to THRIVE and feel happy, rather than just survive? It seems like an interesting comment to make without considering what it means...

Especially considering all the reports of Meghan and Harry not getting along with the royal family as of late, we really should have seen this coming! But it's also the first time something like this has ever happened in the royal family so... I guess now we wait and see what happens!
