Imagine this: you're a teen who has had an incredibly difficult life, having experienced the loss of your parents and bouncing around from foster home to foster home. Then, HBO suddenly does a documentary about kids in the foster system, and you're in it. And THEN a world-wide singer and songwriter super star tweets that she would like to adopt you.
Yeah, it sounds completely made up. But it's not.
Singer Sia tweeted earlier this week that she would like to adopt Dasani from Foster on HBO, sharing that she is just waiting on the house check and all to be cleared to adopt.
It's a lot to take in, right? Sia is suddenly going to be a parent if all goes as planned!
The HBO documentary Foster was released earlier this month in honor of National Foster Care Awareness, and features kids in the foster care system and their stories. The documentary explores the “often-misunderstood world of foster care" through stories specifically within the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services.
As for Dasani specifically, who Sia is looking to adopt, the documentary tells the story of how he watched the man he considered his father shoot and kill his mother at just 4 years old. And he has been in between different group homes ever since.
In the documentary Dasani explains his experience in group homes:
“Being in a group home, it’s like, lockdown. It’s like having a big chain attached to your leg... You go, and if it don’t workout, you go somewhere completely different. You’re just bouncing from place to place to place to place."
And Sia is no stranger to changing people's lives - she has previously given large amounts of money to contestants on Survivor, which she is a self-proclaimed super fan of. But this time, changing Dasani's life would be a much bigger commitment than gifting money.
I love Sia for this! I hope it all works out for both she and Dasani!
