Guillermo Del Toro’s new movie Nightmare Alley has picked up rave reviews for both the film itself and several of its performances with critics saying the work of stars Bradley Cooper, Rooney Mara, Willem Dafoe and Cate Blanchett is among the best of their careers.
And one reason so many of the actors manage to deliver is due to something Del Toro creates for each cast member that never even makes the screen.
Rooney tells Fangoria: "Guillermo writes these incredible character biographies. That’s when it all clicked for me. When I read that. There’s so many little things in there that might seem meaningless to some people, but that just make a character feel real and that to me was my real entry-point."
