We've all been there: telling your partner to "calm down" won't actually calm them down. In fact, it usually makes things 10x worse.
But, Ryan Seacrest shared on-air, this sentence might do the trick instead:
"I understand this is upsetting."
Why?
First of all, it's just a lot nicer and second, it acknowledges their feelings, and you lessen the risk they will get more frustrated because you’re “not getting it”...
