Is This What the Future of Dining Out Will Look Like? Watch

Is this what the future of dining out will look like amid the global COVID-19 pandemic? As parts of the country consider reopening, one restaurant in Amsterdam has shared their potential solution to safe social-distance dining.

Serres Séparées, French for “separate greenhouses,” is a project from the ETEN restaurant at Amsterdam’s Mediamatic arts center that hosts diners in individual glass enclosures.

The individual pods allow two to three people to dine together intimately while isolated from other restaurant-goers.

“At Mediamatic we’re designing and testing new safe hospitality,” the art center wrote on its website. “Later this year we will serve our visitors amazing plant-based dinners in their own little greenhouse.”

As of now, the restaurant is only testing this as they await permission from the government to re-open.

That said, the pods are recommended still only for people that are already living together. Servers will wear gloves and "transparent face shields" to prevent the spread of germs and will also use long boards to serve diners their meals. The greenhouses are also set far apart from each other to ensure minimal contact between customers.
