This summer is going to be a big one for Katy Perry! The pregnant songstress phoned into On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Friday, March 6, and dished on everything from how she’s feeling to her relationship with fiancé Orlando Bloom, her upcoming record and much, much more.
The American Idol judge announced her pregnancy via her new music video for track “Never Worn White,” which also hints at her upcoming nuptials.
“Everything has been really good so far and I’ve just been working through it and making my new record through it and I’m excited for this summer because basically there’s gonna be a lot of releasing this summer,” Perry shared with Ryan Seacrest. “Like, literally and figuratively.”
The mama-to-be said that being pregnant has helped in a new way when it comes to music.
“I have definitely been able to access even more emotion than I’ve ever had which has been wild, but I’m stepping into adulating I guess,” she added of the symbolic new track, which also subtly references her past marriage to ex-husband Russell Brand.
“I’m stepping into [adulthood] which is scary sometimes and that’s kind of what this song talks about is like … the vulnerability and sometimes the fear that goes along with stepping into commitment and the rocky road to get there,” Perry continued. “And for me it was and it has been and it’s one of those things where it’s real and this is the next chapter of my life and I’m really grateful for it.”
Perry, who got engaged to Bloom on Valentine’s Day 2019, added that she’s also grateful for “coming out the other side” of being in the spotlight and that Bloom helps keep her on track.
“I’m glad I’ve been able to come out the other side of this incredible journey that’s almost been 12 years of being in the spotlight and I’m really profoundly grateful that I’m like not hooked on drugs or I’m not like a huge alcoholic and I’ve got my head on my shoulders,” she shared. “I have compassion for anyone that’s going through that but being in this industry will turn you into an insane person if you let it. … I’ve picked a partner that makes sure to keep me evolving into the best version of myself.”
