PSA! Sisanie Gets Real About Infant Swim Lessons

Did you know that drowning is responsible for more accidental deaths among children ages 1-4 than any other cause? Sisanie shared on Thursday, October 3, that she is looking into getting her twins into swimming lessons after spending the summer being nervous around pools and learning the scary stats behind drowning.

Sisanie shared that founder Jessica Box in Temecula, California, at the “One Baby At A Time” Foundation, is teaching children as young as six months how to swim — well before they are learning to walk or talk and it could save their lives.

Within a few weeks, Sis explained, infants are learning how to flip over and float, which is the main concern in drowning. Swimming and floating are both motor skills and they guarantee that every child will get these motor skills because they’re teaching them a muscle memory. At the end of the course, they simulate real fall ins. That means adding a diaper that is 15-18 pounds when saturated with water, and shoes and clothing. Classes can be hard to watch at first, but Box shared that the children do not leave traumatized.

Sisanie also added that parents shouldn't rely on floaties and that floaties have unfortunately given both children and parents the biggest sense of false security.

Ryan also weighed in on the convo, sharing he is thankful he learned how to swim at a young age and that he even made sure to teach his dog, Georgia, how to swim and get in and out of the pool safely.
