Karamo Brown Teases New ‘Vulnerable' Podcast Featuring Guest Laverne Cox

If you’ve ever wanted to ask Karamo Brown advice, now you can! The Queer Eye culture expert sat down with Sisanie for the latest episode of Off-Air With Sisanie and dished on everything from his latest book, Karamo: My Story of Embracing Purpose, Healing, and Hope, forthcoming commencement speech and honest new podcast, Karamo.

The TV personality, fashion designer, best-selling author and now podcast host is delivering the commencement address at Chaffey College next week and shared that his advice stems from the advice he’s always given his eldest son.

“‘You are perfectly designed,’” Karamo explained. “Being a kid, we all have those insecurities, … and I wanted to give him a mantra to say to himself, to believe himself, and it was always: ‘You were perfectly designed.’ You have all the tools you need to create the life you want and one of those biggest tools is the ability to ask for help … and when I go and give lectures, I tell people all around the world, … ‘You were perfectly designed.’ You know? Something to counter those negative messages we all get.”

As one part of Queer Eye’s Fab Five, Karamo is responsible for diving deep into their subject’s issues and helping participants find the root of their struggle and he’s bringing this specialty to the masses. His podcast, Karamo, available on new platform Luminary, offers anyone -- seriously, anyone! -- the chance to seek his advice.

“What I’m excited about is that anybody can call in from around the world and get free advice from me,” Karamo shared with Sis. “Because after Queer Eye, I was getting a lot of messages and … I was like we only accept eight people per season so I was like, ‘What’s a way [I can connect with these people]?’”

It also features celebrity guest interviews, which Karamo is also passionate about.

“I take about 30 calls a day and then we put about two to three of those in the episode mixed with like a celebrity guest who is not about promoting their stuff, [but] about getting vulnerable and to the core,” he continued. “We just had Laverne Cox on there and she was so honest and transparent — I can’t wait for people to hear it. She was saying some things that she’s never actually shared before, like about her feelings being in this industry and not just about being a trans woman, but also like the ageism that goes on ... [It was] really vulnerable.”
