Anne Hathaway stars as a British con artist in her new movie The Hustle, which is a role she loved playing, although she did put up some resistance to the character’s UK roots.
She feared she would butcher the accent. She tells Good Morning America:
"I didn't want to do it. I just thought if I mess this up it could be such a face plant. But I'm really happy because for the first time in my 20-year career I've gotten compliments from the British press on my British accent."
Ironically, Anne got the guts to try the well-received accent by convincing herself that maybe the character wasn’t British at all, adding:
"She's a con woman. Maybe she's just decided that she's British and that’s why she sounds sorta British.”
The Hustle, which also stars Rebel Wilson hits theaters tomorrow.
