Okurrr! Cardi B wowed at the 2019 Met Gala in a massive red gown that required five handlers to help her walk the pink carpet in New York City on Monday, May 6.
The singer’s sprawling gown featured an eccentric quilted train and sequined bust, as well as feathers and a matching cap. The jaw-dropping ensemble also had some on Twitter comparing it to a down-comforter or sleeping bag.
The camp-approved look was designed by Thom Brown.
“I designed this dress for Cardi specifically because she has the ultimate beauty in a woman’s body, and that is what the dress is about for me, taking advantage of that beauty,” the designer explained of the creation.
The annual gala’s theme this year was “Camp: Notes on Fashion” — a nod to Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay “Notes on ‘Camp’” — drawing on the theme of silly and sublime. Susan Sontag's 1964 essay defines camp as "love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration."
Cardi recently made headlines after sharing with the crowd at the Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis on Sunday that she got liposuction.
“I have some news for y’all. I should have canceled today,” she told the crowd. “I shouldn’t really be performing because moving too much is gonna f--k up my lipo. But bitch I’m still gonna get my motherf--ing money back, let’s go!”
The rapper hinted she wanted to undergo lipo after welcoming her daughter Kulture with Offset but had previously denied going under the knife. She also since shared she got a second breast augmentation.
