Public health officials in Los Angeles have declared a measles outbreak, with more than five cases of the measles being investigated by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Amid the scare, Dr. Drew phoned into On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Thursday, April 25, and warned everyone should check with their doctor on their vaccinations and more.
“This is just the tip of the sphere of the infectious disease problems we’re going to have this summer,” Dr. Drew explained, stressing the importance of taking the outbreak seriously. “… It’s as though we have decided that the basic principles of how humans congregate in concentrated environments — we call that a civilization — suddenly we don’t need that,” Dr. Drew added. “[As if] we don’t need to worry about sanitation, vaccinations … These are things that if we do not actively control, there will be massive infectious disease outbreaks. … Everyone should be worry about it for sure.”
So what should you do if you live in Los Angeles or have traveled recently?
“The easy answer is, of course, get your kids vaccinated,” Dr. Drew shared. “And if you’re unsure if you’re properly immunized, get a viral titer … You can get it tested at your doctor’s office … Get your titers checked … If you have any question, … go get revaccinated … or get your titers checked,” he concluded.
