will.i.am made history when he decided to recruit Fergie to join the Black Eyed Peas, turning the group rom a well-respected underground hip hop trio into a chart topping, hit making machine.
Fergie famously took her name from the real Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, who’s nicknamed Fergie by the UK press.
And believe it or not, will.i.am also almost collaborated with that real Duchess. On the UK talk show Lorraine, he explained:
"A long time ago we had tea at her house and she said, ‘you know I write poetry.’ And I said, ‘it’d be really cool if you recited it to some of my music.’ I thought it’d be fun because everybody knows me and Fergie, but to have the real Fergie drop some poetry lyricals over my beats would have blown minds."
The Black Eyed Peas’ new album Masters of the Sun, which doesn’t feature either Fergie, is out now.
