To the Batmobile! Will Arnett’s role voicing the Dark Knight in the Lego movies has earned him a whole new fan base. The funnyman phoned into On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Thursday, January 24, and admitted that yes, voicing Batman again in the new Lego Movie 2: The Second Part makes him a hit with his kids, Archie, 10, and Abel, 8.
“It’s great because it gives me a lot of currency with the kids,” Arnett shared, after answering the phone in true character. “I go to my kids’ school and it’s like I’m a circus monkey — they’re like ‘Do the voice!’ So I’m like ‘OK.’”
The actor, who voiced the character as well in The Lego Movie and The Lego Batman Movie, dished that the third installment brings fans back to where they started.
“It’s super fun,” Arnett, who shares kids Archie and Abel with ex-wife Amy Poehler, continued. “… We come back to those original characters and pick up where we left off. The last story, and I will say without divulging too much, there’s a whole space element. We go into space and Tiffany Haddish is a new character and she’s really funny and she and Batman have a very special relationship … I’ll just leave it at that.”
Arnett added that the film is also a good time for parents, too.
“Ultimately, at the end of the day, what I love about it is there’s always a great message about it, but it’s super fun whether you’re a kid … or you’re a parent,” he concluded. “There’s lots of jokes in there that work still on a lot of levels.”
