Missy Elliott broke new musical ground throughout the course of her career and she’s being honored for her achievements as the first female rapper in history to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and only the third MC ever, joining Jay-Z and Jermaine Dupri.
It’s worth noting Missy’s songwriting extends far beyond her own music. In fact, before her career took off she was already successful as a composer.
She’s crafted hits for Beyoncé, Whitney Houston, Aaliyah, and Mariah Carey to name a few.
Folk singer Cat Stevens is among the other honorees who will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame on June 13th in New York City.
