Moms everywhere come to a point where they decide quitting breastfeeding. For Sisanie, that moment came after she suffered mastitis and decided that for her own sanity, it was time to stop. The mom to twins Aiza and Maxon, who turn 4 months in September, opened up on-air while chatting with Ryan Seacrest about her decision to switch to solely formula.
“Luckily, I don’t have to pump at work because breastfeeding — let me just tell you — was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life,” Sisanie admitted. “Breastfeeding twins, you know, at first, it wasn’t that bad because they were drinking like one ounce, but then they get bigger and bigger so I knew I was going to have to supplement with formula, but I wasn’t prepared for my milk supply to be low,” she continued. “My milk supply was low. I had barely enough milk for one baby let alone two and it was a stressful, really frustrating moment or period.”
“With twins, I was pumping all the time,” Sis added. “Like I would feed them, burp them, change them, and then I would go pump and I would have to start the cycle all over again — nonstop.”
Sisanie explained that Aiza and Maxon are formula fed now.
“Obviously breast milk is better, but for me, it was my sanity,” she explained. “Like, my mental health was more important than trying to get these extra nutrients for my kids at that point. So I made it three months. I’m happy with that decision … quitting was a really tough decision [though].”
Getting mastitis, Sis added, also contributed to her quitting.
“It’s a terrible terrible infection … and that was one of the reasons why I stopped breastfeeding … that was like the icing on the cake. I was like, ‘Oh my gosh,’” she recalled. “It hurts really, really bad.”
