Ashlee Simpson Finally Addresses Her “SNL” Lip-Synch Fail 14 Years Later

Eek! It’s been 14 years since Ashlee Simpson's disastrous appearance on Saturday Night Live back in 2004.

If you remember, the songstress was guest hosting SNL and performed on the show when during the second scheduled song, a pre-recorded track of her singing “Pieces of Me” started playing. Ashlee awkwardly danced around before leaving the stage entirely, with the show aprutbly cutting to commercial.

At the end of the show, the singer claimed that her band started “playing the wrong song” and that she didn’t know what to do. She later claimed that she was actually suffering from “severe acid reflux” and that her manager, dad Joe Simpson, had told her to use a back track …

Ashlee, who is making a return to the spotlight alongside husband Evan Ross with new E! reality show Ashlee + Evan, never mentioned the scandal again — until now.

While speaking to E! Newsshe admitted that the fiasco made her “stronger” and a “better performer" and that it was many, many years ago.

"It's definitely not difficult to talk about,” she said. “That was a very long time ago. It's something that happened to me and things in life happen, and they make you stronger. They make you a better performer and a better person. I think things like that build your character and your strength, and it's how you handle them [that matters.]"

The mom of two has, in fact, put the whole thing behind her.

"I was a teen, an angsty girl on my show back in the day and now I'm a woman and a mother,” she concluded. “I want people to know where I'm at and who I am in my life."

Ashlee and Evan’s new show premieres on E! on September 9 at 10 p.m.
