Chip and Joanna Gaines on Raising a Newborn 8 Years Later

Chip and Joanna Gaines have their hands full! The Fixer Upper couple welcomed fifth child, son Crew, on June 21 and shared with People magazine that it’s a trip down memory lane having a newborn on their hands again.

“We think about things like when Emmie goes off to college this little one will only be 10,” Joanna told People. “It’s just crazy to think how wide that gap is, but Chip just loves hanging out with the kids and it’s just such a sweet thing.”

The HGTV stars’ youngest child Crew joins sons Drake, 13, and Duke, 10, and daughters Ella, 11, and Emmie, 8.

“I have forgotten almost everything, so it feels brand-new,” Joanna also reflected while pregnant eight years later. “I tell Chip that I feel 25, and in my mind there’s something about it that gives me an extra kick in my step. Forty and pregnant … who would have ever thought that was going to happen? But I’ll take it!”

Crew, who also arrived a surprising two weeks early, is keeping the spontaneity alive in their marriage.

“We’re looking forward to what’s to come, and what’s to come, we have no idea,” Joanna added. “I think one thing about me and Chip is that we never like to look really far in advance and plan, that’s never been how we are. I joke with my friends that I’m going to be that 45-year-old who’s pregnant.”

Case in point: In September 2017 the couple announced they were ending their hit HGTV renovation show Fixer Upper after five seasons, much to fan disappointment.

“It is with both sadness and expectation that we share the news that season 5 of Fixer Upper will be our last,” they wrote on their blog at the time. “While we are confident that this is the right choice for us, it has for sure not been an easy one to come to terms with. Our family has grown up alongside yours, and we have felt you rooting us on from the other side of the screen. How bittersweet to say goodbye to the very thing that introduced us all in the first place.”
