Former Miss Guatemala U.S. Jossie Ochoa Shares How to Help Volcano Victims

Former Miss Guatemala U.S. Jossie Ochoa phoned into On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Friday, June 8, to share how people can help those affected by the deadly volcano in Guatemala.

The volcano, Volcan de Fuego, erupted earlier this week and, so far, hundreds have been confirmed dead and are still missing. Fuego is located on the borders of three of Guatemala’s “departments” - Chimaltenango, Escuintia and Sacatepequez.

The volcano lies about 10 miles west of Antigua and completely obliterated towns, leaving them covered in ashes, raining down for miles reaching the capital Guatemala City, 25 miles away.

“On Sunday, the volcano erupted and it has affected more than 1.7 million people and right now the rescue team is still trying to find families and lost people who are left out there with no help,” Jossie shared with Ryan on Friday. “So what we are doing is fundraising to buy supplies and send all these resources directly to the rescue teams … I know a lot of us wan to help physically, but in this moment, right now it’s supplies needed.”

To help, you can donate via Jossie’s GoFundMe or text REDCROSS to 90999 to give $10 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief.
