iHeartRadio’s 2018 Wango Tango will officially be larger than life! Nick Carter phoned into On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Friday, May 11, to announce that the Backstreet Boys will be joining iHeartRadio’s 2018 Wango Tango along with previously announced artists Shawn Mendes, Ariana Grande, Meghan Trainor, 5 Seconds of Summer, NF, Miguel, Janelle Monáe and Marshmello with a special guest performance by Logic.
“We have a residency now at Wango Tango,” Nick joked to Ryan, referring to BSB’s past four Wango Tango performances. “Are you kidding me?! We cannot wait to be a part of this. Thank you for having us.”
Nick, along with bandmates AJ McLean, Howie D., Kevin Richardson and Brian Littrell, previously performed at the star-studded concert in 2001, 2004, 2005 and 2017.
“It’s kind of scaring me,” Nick joked. “We just celebrated our 25th anniversary on the cruise and now I’m sitting back going, ‘Oh my god!’ But I’m only 38-years-old so still the youngest guy in the group so I’m happy about that. But it’s incredible, it’s 2018 and the Backstreet Boys are still here dong music and getting ready to release the new single about a week from now.”
Nick confirmed that they will indeed be performing their forthcoming new single at Wango Tango.
“Yes, we will be performing our new single,” he said. “We can’t wait to rip up that stage.”
The boy band teased in April that a new track will be dropping soon and coming to radio. Alongside a reposted video taken by Kevin Richardson at the time, the singer captioned himself playing a soft melody at the piano “New single to radio. 21 days.”
The BSB most recently made headlines though for reverting back to the ‘90s — and in the form of the Spice Girls. To celebrate the final night of their annual cruise in the Bahamas, the men dressed up as the former British girl band.
“We went to the Bahamas for about four days. We had about 2,000 fans on the cruise and we do theme nights. ... The very last night, it was girl power night, and we dressed up as the Spice Girls,” Nick said of that since-viral moment. “We performed ‘Wannabe,’ we did ‘Say You’ll Be There.’”
"I'll say I have the best legs out of all the guys," he joked. "I have very frail ankles so I had these really high boots and I had to be careful because the cruise [was] swaying back and forth. I don’t know how the girls do it, I give it all to them. It's incredible. I'd rather wear sneakers."
Wango Tango will take place on June 2nd at the all-new Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles.
Music fans from all over the US can watch it all go down though via a live stream exclusively on ATT.com and Twitter. Wango Tango will also be broadcast live via iHeartMedia radio stations throughout the country across more than 150 markets. Viewers can also re-live the show by tuning into an 90-minute television special, exclusively on Freeform, on Sunday, June 3rd at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
