Why Julie Bowen Was Nervous Making 'Life of the Party'

Melissa McCarthy’s got more than a starring role in her new comedy Life of the Party, she also wrote the movie alongside her husband, Ben Falcone, who in turn directed it.

Co-star Julie Bowen, who gets to play a villain, basically the opposite of her character on Modern Family tells Collider the husband and wife team is so talented it was a bit intimidating at first.

"I did not know how much they love to improvise. I’ve never worked with this group before, and they’re a formidable group of people," she says. "And then, there’s Melissa. I was just really overwhelmed with how much improv-ing they did and how much you have to shove your way in there."

She admits as the new girl of the group and playing the bad guy she was a little restrained at first. But added, “I think I did my job. I made a very hate-able person.”

Life of the Party is in theaters today.
