Elton John Shares His Post-Retirement Plans With His Adorable Sons

posted by Sierra Marquina -

Elton John might be embarking on a 300-plus Farewell Tour, but fret not, he’s not done making music. The Grammy-winning icon phoned in to On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Friday, April 13, and shared that he’s retiring in terms of traveling -- once his tour, the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour -- closes in four years in 2021.

"This decision was made in 2015 in the summer and David, my husband, and myself sat down and I said 'I don’t want to go on forever and I want to spend some time with the boys,'” Elton told Ryan of his decision, referring to their adorable sons Zachary, 7, and Elijah, 5. “I’ve been touring all my life. I’ve been in the back of a van since I was 16. I’ve been traveling around and I love playing shows, but the traveling is tiring and you know as you get older I don’t like traveling as much …. I really want to spend some time with [my sons]. I need to be there and, to be honest with you, I prefer their company to my music now.”

And away we go........! @davidfurnish

That said, Elton won’t just disappear.

“I’m going to record and write music for the stage and I’m going to concentrate on the aids foundation and I’m going to concentrate on the boys,” he said of his post-Farewell Tour plans. “I’m not going to stop being creative, but I’m going to stop traveling.”
