Melissa McCarthy Speaks Out After Weight Loss: It’s “Dumb” to Focus On

Melissa McCarthy has shed a reported 75 pounds, but she doesn’t find it as headline-making as the rest of the internet. The Life Of the Party actress, 47, said during an interview for the April/May 2018 issue of AARP The Magazine that focusing on weight loss and appearance isn’t doing the world any good.

“I just find it dumb and boring. I really do. No one's asking a man, how do you keep your legs in shape? Which I've been asked,” the Bridesmaids star said. “I think every time we categorize people — by weight, by race, by gender — we put them in boxes and it's not a good thing for the world.”

Melissa showed off her visibly thinner figure in the recently dropped trailer for Life Of The Party. In the film, the funnywoman plays a recently dumped housewife named Deanna who goes back to college.

According to reports, Melissa lost weight by following the keto diet and working out. The keto diet involves eating more healthy fats and avoiding carbohydrates to achieve ketosis which forces the body to burn fats rather than carbs.

During an interview with Redbook in 2015, Melissa also stressed that health is what’s important.

“My message is that as long as everybody’s healthy, enjoy and embrace whatever body type you have,” she told the mag. “There’s an epidemic in our country of girls and women feeling bad about themselves based on what .5% of the human race looks like. It starts very young. My message is that as long as everybody's healthy, enjoy and embrace whatever body type you have.”
