The Weeknd Hints He Almost Gave Selena Gomez His Kidney in New Song

The Weeknd dropped surprise EP My Dear Melancholy last night and in track "Call Out My Name," he seemingly hints that he almost gave ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez one of his kidneys.

Selena, who dated the Grammy winner for 10 months only to reconnect with on-again, off-again boyfriend Justin Bieber following their October 2017 split, underwent emergency kidney transplant surgery earlier in 2017.

On the song "Call Out My Name," The Weeknd starts, "We found each other / I helped you out of a broken place / You gave me comfort / But falling for you was my mistake."

He then implies that he was almost her donor. "I said I didn’t feel nothing baby, but I lied / I almost cut a piece of myself for your life," he sings.

Selena’s donor was her best friend, Francia Raisa. In her announcement this past September, she thanked her friend for saving her life.

“I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you. Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “And finally, there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis.”

The girls have been friends since their early acting days.

Francia also took to Instagram after Selena announced her surgery. "I am beyond grateful that God would trust me with something that not only saved a life, but changed mine in the process," she wrote at the time. "This was part of our story, and we will share it soon, but what is important now is that this is not the only story.”
