Ellen DeGeneres is known for either scaring or surprising her guests, but on Tuesday, February 27, she pulled off the sweetest bit yet: a gift in honor of Jimmy Kimmel’s 10-month-old son, Billy.
Billy has undergone multiple procedures for congenital heart defects since he was born, and while sitting down with dad Jimmy Kimmel, DeGeneres announced that the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles has named a room on its Heart Institute floor after Billy.
“Wow,” Kimmel said repeatedly before giving the talk-show host a kiss on the cheek, wiping tears away from his eyes.
“That will forever be the Billy Kimmel room,” Ellen said after they showed a video debuting the room. “And thanks to everyone at the Children’s Hospital of L.A., including several of Billy’s nurses, who are here in the audience today.”
Billy was born in April 2017 with a genetic heart disease which Kimmel revealed during one of his late-night monologues. He underwent open heart surgery just days after his birth and had a second successful surgery this past December.
