Alessia Cara has responded to the unexpected backlash she faced after winning Best New Artist at The Grammys.
Detractors have been focused on the fact her debut album Know-It-All came out in 2015 and produced two No. 1 AT40 hits "Here" and "Scars to Your Beautiful."
Alessia defended her win on Instagram, writing in part:
This is “Something I had no control over. I didn’t submit myself, but I won and won’t be upset about something I’ve wanted since I was a kid.
This shows what I’ve created is worth something and all of the years feeling like I was naïve for dreaming about something improbable paid off.
I know it sounds cheesy and dumb but it’s the honest truth."
