A Texas mom named Brittany Mease accidentally killed her family’s Elf on the Shelf and has since hilariously shared the story on Facebook in a now viral post.
“Ya’ll know I can’t stand doing Elf on the Shelf but I suck it up every year and do it to see those precious smiles on my beautiful children’s faces,” Mease began in the Facebook post.
(“Elf on the Shelf” is a toy that is considered Santa’s little scout who watches children in their homes during the day and then returns to the North Pole at night to report on whether they were naughty or nice. Each morning, the little Elf assumes a new position in the house, leaving parents to have to get creative.)
The mom explained in her post that she hadn’t moved the elf in a couple days and explained to her kids that he had broken his leg and couldn’t move.
One day, she then realized she should move the elf and tossed him into the oven while her kids weren’t looking to spare some time.
This is when things went downhill.
“I seriously forgot I put the freaking elf in the freaking oven,” Mease shares. “I preheated the oven and started cleaning the kitchen. About 4 minutes later I started to smell something REALLY funky and that’s when all hell broke loose.”
Mease and her friend were trying to get the melted toy out of the oven when her son walked in.
“Gray ... got his little heart broken,” Mease wrote. “I seriously suck.”
She did, however, make it up to her kids. Read her complete story above to see what she ended up doing.
