Between dancing, acting, and touring with Sia, at just 14 years old Maddie Ziegler has already accomplished so much she could effectively retire before getting her driver's license. But this young lady has no intentions of slowing down:
"I love everything that I do," she gushed. "I love staying busy.”
Maddie first came into the spotlight as the breakout star of Lifetime reality series Dance Moms alongside infamous coach Abby Lee Miller. Her talent on the show caught the unlikely attentions of Sia, who Maddie said reached out via Twitter to cast her in the music video for "Chandelier." Now with an impressive 1.6 billion views on YouTube, it has since become one of the most-viewed videos of all-time.
Maddie went on to become somewhat of a muse for the pop star, appearing in a trilogy of Sia music videos and on tour, during which her fame "exploded." But according to Maddie, their relationship has been mutually beneficial.
“[Sia] always says I did her a favor, too, and I helped her become something bigger," she explained. "It was different, because I don’t think it’s ever really been done before...dance-wise.”
So what go-to moves would this superstar dancer recommend to impress people in a crowd? Not exactly what you might expect:
“What I always do with my friends…is usually just jump around," Maddie laughed. "Because at a party, you don’t pull out all of your turns and kicks and things.”
While dance is still her primary obsession, lately Maddie has been dipping her pointed toes into new waters: acting. Following a string of guest TV and voiceover roles, she landed her first feature film role this year in The Book of Henry opposite Jaeden Lieberher, Jacob Tremblay and Naomi Watts. Though she claimed it was "the worst audition" she's ever done, Maddie said she is excited about the role and working hard to improve in her new field.
With all her tremendous success it is hard to imagine Maddie's life as a "normal" teen, but she insisted that when she's off stage, off set and around her friends, she's just like the rest of us:
"I still find a balance to hang out wth my friends all the time," she explained. "And if I have a day off, I usually just sit in bed and eat junk food and watch Netflix.”
