ABC's popular political drama Scandal, a Shonda Rhimes-created show starring Kerry Washington, will end after Season 7, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
According to THR, the network is expected to announce its series finale at next week's upfront presentation. The outlet reached out to ABC Studios and Shondaland for comment, but both camps declined. In an interview with Rhimes for the show's 100th episode, the TV drama maven revealed that Scandal's ending was contingent on the 2016 presidential election.
"I used to know how it ended, and then Donald Trump was elected," Rhimes told THR. "We had a destination, and I don't know if that's our destination anymore."
Scandal aired its first episode in April 2012 and is currently in its sixth season. The ABC Studios drama is averaging a 2.7 among the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic and 8.9 million total viewers with seven days of delayed viewing, according to THR.
