One of the defining elements of Lorde’s new hit “Green Light” is the infectious, driving piano hook that kicks in about a minute into the song.
Take a listen:
Turns out, it was actually inspired by watching the pianist at a Florence and the Machine concert. She explains to MTV:
“She did this big jangly movement with her hands on the piano. We weren’t inspired by anything musical she was playing, it was the physicality that we recreated.”
Back in the studio her producer Jack Antonoff imitated her hands and “Green Light” was born.
"Green Light" is off Lorde's upcoming album Melodrama, which is expected to drop June 16.
