All life on Earth is at risk of extinction, and it's up to Jake Gyllenhaal and his team of scientists to save the day in Daniel Espinosa's sci-fi thriller Life.
The film, also starring Ryan Reynolds and Rebecca Ferguson, follows Gyllenhaal's David Jordan, who is aboard the International Space Station with his team when they discover a rapidly evolving lifeform that could have caused extinction on Mars, and now threatens the crew and all life on Earth.
"I play a doctor on the Space Station and I talked to this doctor who specializes in space medicine and also in trauma work," Gyllenhaal told On Air with Ryan Seacrest on Friday. "They saved the smarter roles for people like Ryan Reynolds."
According to a recent interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Gyllenhaal and Reynolds' bond was too much to handle on set that a producer had to pull them aside. "It just made it worse! They put us both in the corner and then it just continued," he laughed. "We just made noise and it was the most fun I had on a movie ever, I have to say. And I didn't expect it because it's a movie about getting attacked by a creature from another planet, really, and we were laughing and laughing."
Life is in theaters today.
