Minutes before Justin Timberlake opened the 89th Annual Academy Awards with a feel-good performance of his nominated single "Can't Stop The Feeling," the singer made sure to pull a prank on his colleague, Emma Stone, during red carpet arrivals Sunday afternoon.
While the La La Land actress, who is nominated for best actress in a leading role, was chatting with Vanity Fair, Timberlake creeped up from behind and served a stunned look. Stone joked that she did not know who "these" people were, including JT's wife Jessica Biel.
Timberlake opened the Oscars with his Trolls contribution that featured a verse from Bill Withers' "Lovely Day." The song is nominated for best original song, competing against "City of Stars" and "Audition (The Fools Who Dream)" from La La Land, "The Empty Chair" from Jim: The James Foley Story, and "How Far I'll Go" from Moana.
The Jimmy Kimmel-hosted awards ceremony is broadcasting live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
