Hugh Jackman On Final 'Logan' Film: I Wanted It To Feel 'Completely New' & 'Different'

For one last time, Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as the Marvel universe's fiercest beast in the upcoming film Logan. The movie is set in 2029, when Wolverine's healing power is diminishing, mutants are becoming extinct, and Professor X (Patrick Stewart), whose health is fleeting, assigns Logan one final mission: to help a young girl.

While a weary Logan is caring for an ailing Charles Xavier across the border in Mexico, he comes across a mysterious young mutant pursued by dark forces. Jackman, who played Wolverine nine times in the X-Men franchise, told On Air with Ryan Seacrest that he wanted to conclude his reign as Wolverine by making a film in the same vein as Clint Eastwood's 1992 classic Unforgiven.

"I knew it was going to be my last one," Jackman said. "The first idea I had was, 'Ok, if I got one more shot at this to get it right, what would I want to do?' And I started thinking about Unforgiven; I started thinking about The Wrestler...It's a very different movie. I didn't want it to feel like the last movie in a series. I wanted it to feel completely new and something completely different."

Logan, directed by James Mangold, opens in theaters this Friday, March 3.
