Have You Heard of These ‘Murder Hornets’? Sisanie Breaks Down What to Know

2020 has now welcomed "murder hornets." As Sisanie shared on-air on Wednesday, May 6, the deadly insects have arrived in the U.S. for the first time.

The Asian giant hornet has been known to kill up to 50 people a year in Japan and has the potential to devastate U.S. bee populations, which have already been declining.

So what's the deal with these deadly insects?

First of all, their stinger is a quarter of an inch long versus a honeybee who’s stinger is only 1/16th of an inch long. If you get stung, the pain could last for up to 6 hours and that area on your arm would balloon to twice it’s normal size.

However, a single sting is not likely to kill a human unless you have an allergic reaction to venom. You would need to be attacked by many for it to actually kill you, Sisanie explained, like 30-40.

Another reason not to panic? As of now, they have been spotted in Washington State but officials are tracking the hornets and setting up traps to hopefully ease any possible harm.
