A 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck San Diego on Monday (April 14) and was felt by Coachella concertgoers 90 miles away in Indio, California.
iHeartRadio host Veronica Carter spoke to reporter Delana Bennett with iHeartMedia San Diego, who was camping at the festival when the earthquake struck.
"We're in the Coachella Valley right outside Indio, and we happen to be sitting outside. We're at an RV park in Coachella. This is one of the strongest earthquakes I've ever been in. It was like a 'boom,' and you could hear all the different RVs sort of make that sound. So it was like a heavy boom, and then the shaking and rolling started," Bennett detailed, revealing that she was not the only one who felt the ground shake.
"One of our neighbors in an RV came over, and he goes, 'Hey, did you guys feel that? I was in the shower.' He said, 'I've never felt anything like that.' So I think he had to hold on a little bit. It was pretty strong out here. I thought it was pretty scary actually."
Carter, stationed in San Diego, thought a truck hit her office after hearing a similar "boom."
"I thought that a truck had hit the building because it felt like a big boom, and then there was shaking, and as soon as the shaking started, I went, 'Oh no, that wasn't a car accident. That was an earthquake.' We all popped out of our chairs instantaneously. I mean, it was that strong."
