Are slow dances going away? Sisanie found an article on Billboard that said that slow dances, which was popular in the past, could be going away, especially for Gen Z.
A lot of Gen Z's formative social years was spent isolated and alone during the pandemic. In those years, a lot of their normal rites of passage like prom or first adult parties were taken away because they had to self-isolate and schools were closed.
Prom was significant because this was the place where people would slow dance with your prom dates and form these levels of intimate core memories. Now that is slowly fizzling out and some dances are doing away with slow songs in general.
Does technology also have to do with it? Having social media involved and using our cameras to document everything can take a lot of that comfort of the slow dance away. Slow dances used to be an intimate dance because of the closeness you get with your dance partner, but most teens may feel intimidated now that there's always a camera around and people are posting or live streaming everything and can make them feel vulnerable to getting teased... causing a slow or complete halt in slow dancing!
