The Ryan Seacrest Foundation has over a dozen broadcast studios that are located in Children's Hospitals across America. Many of them are run by volunteers and interns.
An intern from the Children's Health studio in Dallas joined Ryan Seacrest on-air today to share more about her role while she dedicates her time to improving the day-to-day experience for the patients and families in the hospital.
Nylene Garcia is a Cal State Fullerton graduate who hosts the morning show from Seacrest Studios in Dallas. Garcia plays interactive games for patients, and hosts a daily show where she teaches the young patients at the hospital about early 2000s Disney Channel shows like Hannah Montana, That's So Raven, and more.
"There's really nothing I know more than 2000s Disney," Garcia told Seacrest. "I think there was a lot of episodes that I could share that were educational," naming things like That's So Raven episodes that highlighted body image issues, racism, and Wizards of Waverly Place having Latina representation with Selena Gomez, that were fun shows but had an educational element she could provide to the kids.
How do the kids react to her show?
"They're so happy to see us with prizes and all that and it's just a highlight of their day and I feel like I'm able to bring some of that magic that they may not know of."
