Marshmello & Demi Lovato Unveil Meaningful Video For 'OK Not To Be OK'

Marshmello and Demi Lovato came together for a meaningful new anthem.

On Thursday (September 10), the pop star teamed up with the hit-making DJ for “OK Not To Be OK,” an emotional and open-hearted record that encourages strength in times of uncertainty. To accompany the release of their upbeat bop, the stars paired its premiere with a nostalgic music video that finds Lovato comforting who appears to be a younger, troubled version of self.

“When you're high on emotion/ And you're losing your focus/ And you feel too exhausted to pray/ Don't get lost in the moment/ Or give up when you're closest/ All you need is somebody to say,” the 28-year-old powerhouse sings, before reassuring in the chorus, “When you're down and you feel ashamed/ It’s okay not to be okay.”

“OK Not To Be OK” marks the first collaboration between Lovato and Marshmello, who confirmed the effort earlier this month after months of speculation.

The song was released to both raise awareness on suicide prevention as part of September’s National Suicide Prevention Month and bring attention to Hope For The Day, a non-profit movement empowering the conversation on proactive suicide prevention and mental health education.

"Suicide Prevention starts with a conversation we're not having with our mental health due to Stigma,” Lovato shared in a statement. “The first step to breaking that silence is dispelling stigmas of fear, judgement, and shame about our internal experiences. We achieve that by proclaiming It's Ok Not To Be Ok!”
