The Amazing Story Behind Lin-Manuel Miranda's 'In the Heights' Getting Made

The trailer for In the Heights made its online debut yesterday and it is rocketing around the internet.

It’s the upcoming feature based on the Tony-winning hit musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda that launched his career before he created Hamilton.

It’s a movie over a decade in the making and a musical that first started being developed twenty years ago when Lin was only a freshman at Wesleyan University dreaming big in his dorm room, but destiny seemed to be on his side.

With only one song written, Lin applied to put on a production of the play at the school and was surprisingly granted a stage for three days.

He worked day and night for no school credit and created an 80-minute musical that’s pretty different from his eventual Tony-winning version, but two seniors who happened to be in the crowd one night were blown away and told Lin they had plans to start a production company after graduation.

He didn’t think much of it, but two years later they reconnected and slowly developed In the Heights into what it is today.

The new In the Heights trailer is incredibly infectious and will make you want to get up and dance.
