It’s been quite a wild week for Game of Thrones fans.
Just a couple days ago HBO made a shocking decision to not move forward with a Thrones prequel starring Naomi Watts set 2,000 years earlier.
With a big name attached, a high-priced pilot already shot and the insane popularity of the original, it was assumed this show was all nut a sure thing.
But while fans were still reeling from this news, HBO just made another surprise announcement. Another Game of Thrones spinoff called House of the Dragon has been given a straight-to-series order, meaning the show is getting 100% made and will air.
This is also a prequel, but is only 300 years earlier in history. So it will be closer in tone to the original and will feature the same family names fans love.
Additionally, Thrones author George R.R. Martin will be heavily involved including writing much of the first season’s 10 episodes.
HBO essentially never moves forward on a project this quickly, but with all these pieces falling into place they felt confident enough to move forward.
