Why the 'Game of Thrones' Creators Are No Longer Making 'Star Wars' Movies

There’s obviously quite a lot of crossover between Game of Thrones fans and Star Wars fans. Both feature incredible characters and stories inside a fantastical and fully realized universe.

So when the news came down last year that GoT creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were creating their own Star Wars trilogy fanboys and fangirls went nuts in excitement.

Unfortunately, it has just been announced these films will never see the light of day because the record-setting deal the pair recently signed with Netflix will keep them too busy.

In a statement to Deadline, they explain: "When George Lucas built it [Star Wars], he built us too. Getting to talk about Star Wars with him and the current was the thrill of a lifetime and we will always be indebted to the saga that changed everything."

Adding, "There are only so many hours in the day, and we felt we could not do justice to both Star Wars and our Netflix projects. So we are regretfully stepping away."

Thankfully Star Wars fans have other content to look forward to. The new series The Mandalorian will debut on Disney + on November 12th.
