Jennifer Lopez On Preparing for 'Hustlers,' Shares Advice She Got From RBG

There is Oscar buzz around Jennifer Lopez's performance in her latest movie Hustlers and she called into On Air with Ryan Seacrest on Wednesday, September 11, to talk about the film and revealed what advice she got from Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

The weekend Alex Rodriguez proposed to Jen they watched the RBG documentary and were both fascinated by the beautiful love story between the Supreme Court Justice and her husband, Marty.

"When I was tour and we went to Washington...I invited her to the concert and obviously she was like, 'Oh, that's a little too late for me, but why don't you come by my chambers,'" Jennifer recalls.

"We went to meet her and sat with her one afternoon. We had a beautiful visit...It was amazing," she says. "Then Alex was like 'We got engaged and that's the weekend we watched your documentary.' And I said, 'We loved Marty. What would be your advice?'"

"And she was like, 'I'll tell you what my mother-in-law told me on my wedding day. Sometimes it's good to be a little deaf. Nobody's perfect and if sometimes if there's an unkind word or you say something out of anger, it's better just to let it go,'" Jen shared. "And I was like , 'Wow.'"

"She didn't say anything about blind though," she joked.

Like RBG and her husband, Jen and Alex have remarkable support for each other when someone needs to be focused on something for their own profession.

And her new movie is no exception, Hustlers is based on a true story about a group of strippers that band together to embezzle money from the Wall Street clients who visit their club.

"Me and Alex went to the club..he was like, 'Yeah, I know about this stuff. I used to be in clubs all the time when I was a [MLB] player.'" JLo says. "I didn't hang out in strip clubs. So I really needed to do from the ground up research."

"You can't just make believe that you understand something when you've never really done it. You have to go in. You have to talk to people. You have to get into the psyche of why people choose to do certain things and what it's like and how it feels," Jen explains. "My character, Ramona, as nurturing and as cool as she is, even as loving as she is, she is an absolute savage."

Hustlers also starring Constance Wu, Julia Stiles, Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart, Lizzo, and Cardi B is out in theaters this Friday.
